The Haunting on the Third Floor
The First Encounter
On the night of September 23, 2023, at 1:45 AM, a man noticed something strange. He saw someone moving on the third floor of his building, a floor that had been abandoned for years. No one ever went up there. The only light was from the moon, making everything look eerie.
Curious and a bit scared, he kept watching. It was a woman, but her walk was very strange. She moved so slowly, taking five to six seconds for each step. She walked to the end of the hallway, but instead of turning around like a normal person, she started walking backward. This odd behavior kept the man awake and terrified. He tried to take a picture, but it was too dark and the distance too far. For nearly two hours, he watched her walk back and forth until she disappeared at 3:50 AM.
The next night, he watched again but saw nothing. Days passed without any sign of the mysterious woman, and he started to think he had imagined it. But then came Durga Ashtami, a night during the Navratri festival when it’s believed that spirits roam the earth.
The Second Encounter
On October 16, 2023, at 1:15 AM, the man saw her again. This was the second night of Navratri. He was less shocked but still very scared. He had told his neighbors about the ghostly woman, and many shared their own stories about her. They believed she was a spirit seeking redemption and warned him that trying to capture her on camera could disturb her quest.
The man watched from a distance as she moved with the same slow, strange walk. This time, he felt a mix of fear and pity, thinking about her tragic fate.
The Third Encounter: A Stormy Night
The third encounter happened on July 9, 2024, during the monsoon season. It had been raining heavily for days. At around 10:45 PM, the man saw her again. The rain and lightning made the night even scarier.
A flash of lightning lit up the third floor, and he saw her clearly for the first time. Her body was dark grey, and her face had no features—no eyes, no nose, just a vague human shape. The sight was so terrifying that the man couldn’t bear to look anymore and ran away from the window.
The Tragic Backstory
There was a sad history behind the haunting. Years ago, a woman had lived on that floor with her family. Due to internal disputes, she poured gasoline over herself and set herself on fire. Her family moved away after her death, leaving the apartment empty.

When a new family moved in, they started experiencing strange things. They didn’t know about the previous tragedy. One night, the woman of this new family locked herself in a room and, in a horrifying repeat of history, burned herself to death with gasoline. This event led to the family leaving the apartment as well.
Disturbing Events and Unexplained Noises
After a month, neighbors started hearing screams at night. They heard chairs being thrown and doors slamming shut, but when they checked, they found nothing. One night, a man from a neighboring apartment heard the noise and went to investigate. He saw the door of the suicide room had been slammed shut with great force. Terrified, he did not sleep that night and shared his experience with other residents the next day.
The stories spread, and soon everyone on that floor decided to move out. The building’s third floor became a place of fear, abandoned and avoided by all.
The Ongoing Haunting
Since those events, many have reported seeing the ghostly woman wandering the third floor. Some say they hear whispers and feel a cold presence when they pass by the building. The story of the ghost has become a local legend, a chilling tale told to warn others about the dangers of disturbing the restless spirits that haunt the old government quarters.
The man who first saw her has never forgotten the terror of that night. He avoids looking at the building now, but he still hears stories from those who claim to see her. The legend of the haunted third floor continues to grow, a testament to the lingering pain and unresolved tragedies that refuse to be forgotten.
The Curse of the Third Floor
This story serves as a warning: not all that glitters is gold, and sometimes, the most livable places can hide the darkest secrets. The haunted third floor of the Govt quarter building remains a place of mystery and terror, where the past and present collide in the most unsettling of ways.
